How We Produce Our Profiles for Furniture Using Recycled Plastic

In recent years, sustainability has significantly changed consumer habits, with people becoming increasingly aware of the environmental impact of their choices.

As a result, companies are also paying more attention to designing products with reduced environmental impact.

The furniture industry, in particular, is committed to creating more sustainable solutions, utilizing eco-friendly materials and technologies that reduce harmful emissions.

Less CO2 with Recycled Plastic Profiles for furniture

A significant contribution to the realisation of sustainable furniture comes from plastics that, at the end of their life cycle, can be regenerated to create new products that are themselves recyclable.

We manufacture certified recycled plastic furniture profiles using polymers containing varying percentages of recycled material, ranging from 5% to 100%.

To fully appreciate the importance of this choice, it is essential to know that producing recycled PVC requires 45% to 90% less energy than producing virgin PVC. Moreover, for every kilogram of recycled PVC, approximately 2 kg of CO2 emissions are saved.

According to the latest data, the CO2 savings from PVC recycling in Europe amount to around 1 million tons per year.

Sustainable Extrusion Process for Recycled Plastic Profiles

To further reduce our environmental impact in producing recycled plastic profiles for furniture , we implement various sustainable measures:

  • Using o renewable energy, thanks to our photovoltaic installation
  • Recycling  inner water to cool profiles
  • Recovery heat from extruders to warm workspaces during winter season
  • Sourcing materials from nearby suppliers to reduce long-distance transportation emissions.
  • Reiusing our industrial waste.

Types of Recycled Plastic Furniture Profiles

In the furniture industry, the primary challenge is to achieve regenerated profiles that combine good mechanical properties, durability, and a pleasing aesthetic appearance. Recycled raw materials do not always offer all these qualities simultaneously, so every project requires a thorough study of the right mix of materials.

We use certified raw materials, consisting of a mix of post-consumer certified recycled polymers and post-industrial recycled polymers, to create durable and long-lasting products.

Designing a product with recycled plastic requires an in-depth understanding of these materials’ characteristics to ensure the extruded profile meets the desired specifications. Our technical office is available to support you in every phase, from initial concept to the final solution.

Moreover, a well-designed ecodesign project should allow for the separation of components at the end of their lifecycle to facilitate recovery and recycling.

Aesthetic Considerations for Recycled Plastic Profiles

It is important to note that recycled material obtained through extrusion does not have the same appearance as virgin material.

For those who wish to render the recycled effect visible, we carefully work on the combination of raw materials and the production process. For those who prefer a uniform surface finishing, co-extrusion with a thin layer of virgin material or ennoblement techniques can be used to mask the recycled effect.

With recycled plastic, it is possible to produce structural profiles, aesthetic profiles, and components suitable for furniture, cabinets, modular walls, seating, doors, skirting boards, and decorative accessories.
